Probably like no other sport is the watering hole after the game is finished been so important. In golf it even has a name . The 19th hole. When you are on tour the location and it’s ambience for having a drink with your friends is so important for the success of the trip. It is often cited as the second most important factor of a golf tour after the quality of the courses.
Here are some great 19th holes from our tours that you may want to try out.
Bonville Golf Resort
Golfing at Bonville is a 5 star experience. It doesn’t end when you put the flag back in at the 18th. The verandah outside the restaurant “Flooded Gums” is a must do spot for a drink after the game. It overlooks the sweeping beauty of the 18th and 1st fairways, surrounded by tall gums and chattering bird life.
Drinks won’t be club prices but you are not going to care. Added to that you could make a luncheon booking at Flooded Gums, the only hatted restaurant at an Australian golf course. As well the first rate service that you receive at Bonville, just adds to the experience.
Black Bull Golf Course
Black Bull Golf Club does not have a bar. You can buy a few drinks from the fridge in the proshop. However as you make your way down the 18th, The Sebel Yarrawonga sits out on the point in front of you. We have always recommended our clients to put their clubs away or park them behind the green and to do the short walk down to the Sunset Bar at the Sebel.
Visitors are welcome and with views over the pool to the ghostly white trees in Lake Mulwala, it is a wonderful place to finish after the round. You may also want to make a booking at their restaurant Stock and Barrel, which offers fine cuisine.
Moss Vale Golf Club
Moss Vale is a picturesque parkland course in the Southern Highlands. Originally designed by one of the forefathers of Australian golf course design, Carnegie Clark. Despite being a traditional design with small greens, the course has improved in it’s conditioning under superintendant Nathan McGaw and his crew.
Also there has been refurbishment of the facilities at the adjoining Dormie House and that is where you can enjoy food and refreshments on the balcony overlooking the 18th green. There is a wide range of beers and the kitchen has long open hours to give a good quality feed after the round. There are also some rooms inside where one of our recent client groups gathered to watch the NRL grand finals!
Shoalhaven Heads Golf Club
“The Heads” is a progressive golf club on the mid South Coast that not only provides one of the best but also the most weather proof course on the NSW South Coast. On a recent visit, they had 270mm of rain on the Wednesday and Thursday but by the Monday, the course and all the bunkers were completely dry.
Probably due to the recent years of wet weather and increase in the popularity of golf, increases in revenue have been ploughed back into the golf course and the facilities. The clubhouse in what was formally a large wooden beach house, has been enlarged to include a great verandah overlooking the 18th. After playing such a wonderful course, it can be a great place to hang out for round post mortems and plans for the future.
Queanbeyan Golf Club
Queanbeyan Golf Club is the oldest golf club in the Canberra Region having occupied it’s current site since 1919. Although a traditional parkland layout , a recent state government grant of $1.5m organised through the former local member and deputy premier, John Barilaro has been invested wisely.
Not only has there been improvements to the course but the clubhouse was completely refurbished. The balcony for the 19th is the place to be after you have finished. Not only do have the beautiful vision looking down through the avenue of trees that make the 18th fairway that lead to the Queanbeyan River. It is also a great place to barrack or heckle your tour companions as they finish their rounds.
